Nutrition, What Are Our Nutritional Needs?

Good Nutrition leads to healthier living.

Nutrition as it applies to our daily lives means that we take in what we need to maintain our body's healthy state.  Nutrition has become an important word thanks to the involvement of the USDA in our daily food requirements, and the FDA involvement in determining what is and is not dangerous for us to consume.

But what is our responsibility in the nutrition game? Do we understand what our nutritional requirements are, how to fulfill those requirements, and how to look for real nutritional value in our foods?

Am I sure that nutrition has been successfully addressed in its own right? We hear nutrition in relation to our vitamin intake, our fortified cereals and milk, and in the context that we need nutritional value from our food choices. But what really is nutrition when applied to our daily bodily functions? Should I understand this better?  The answer is yes!

Build yourself a better body.

If better health and a stronger body are your goals, then understanding nutrition is very important.

Start by doing this;

  • Calories, vitamins, and exercise must be in the plan. Know what they are.
  • Understand minimum daily requirements.
  • Nurture the body.

Each day, we must determine how much nourishment we need, how much physical exercise we need, and how best to accomplish this for our body. Soon we will be able to find the routine that best fits our desired lifestyle.

If you will visit your local doctor, library, or fitness center, there are massive amounts of information available to help educate us and to help us make good health choices

Nutrition refers to the nurturing of our body, in our ability to keep it healthy and functioning as it is supposed to do. Our ability to provide the body with all its necessary food, vitamins, and minerals so that we continue to thrive in our daily life processes.

If you were to take a cross section of the population, and check for adequate levels of the most used and fortified vitamins and minerals, you would probably find that a high percentage of the population is lacking in a least one of the vitamins and minerals.

Nutritional value of each food is important.

Now, that doesn't sound too bad, until you stop to think, what if its calcium? A calcium deficiency brings on osteoporosis, a deteriorating of the bone. This disease alone costs millions in medical expenses to the population. And, that's just one example. Minerals are very important for proper body function and good health.

Can you see how a little more cooperation and open-minded participation on our part with our medical field could result in far fewer health problems? An understanding provides a better and more accurate way to plan nutrition, vitamin, and mineral needs. But, we must listen. We have to take the good advice we're given when it comes from an expert.

Get your food facts straight and make a meal plan.

So how do we determine that we are providing the essential nutritional needs? That knowledge comes by educating ourselves about what our individual needs are, the needs of our family, and then taking that knowledge and applying it to the foods we buy, that we prepare, and what our families consume.

Do the same for your exercise needs.

Quite often, our vitamin and mineral needs outweigh our calorie needs. In those instances, we may turn to manufactured vitamins and minerals to fill the gap. This is a part of our nutritional needs, also. Even without access to manufactured vitamins, meal planning will help keep us in balance. Understanding foods and food groups is a key part of the puzzle.

Nutrition is one of the most complex areas to gain useful knowledge about because there are so many components. Each person has their own individual needs. Our needs change as we age and make changes in our daily routine. If we can understand food nutrition and the benefits of exercise, we can begin to pinpoint the sources of our best health. Living a happier and more peaceful life becomes easier.

Food needs vary between individuals.

Food needs differ between genders and health status. Those of big men, older women, and young children will differ. As we age, our needs constantly change; therefore continual education about our nutrition is a fact of life. The nutritional needs of a cardiac patient are different than those of a healthy, middle-aged hiker. Complicated knowledge is not required but simple facts will go a long way towards success.

Can you see the complexity of the situation now? We should try to determine our basic nutritional needs. Understanding foods and food groups is important. As we age or our health changes, we may have to recalculate vitamin and exercise requirements.  Basic needs may vary.

Individuality is one key to understanding a person's nutritional needs. Good nutrition should be the ultimate goal of every person alive.  Our better health and stronger bodies depend on it.
